Roll and Read: Vowel Teams
Vowel Teams ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, ow, oe, ie, igh
Vowel teams can be confusing for learners because spelling patterns do not always follow one consistent sound rule, making decoding and spelling more difficult. When learners are still developing automatic recognition of vowel team patterns, reading may sound slow or choppy at times, which can impact fluency, confidence, and overall comprehension.
Note: The intentional 3-items-per-row layout encourages learners to pause and discuss tricky or unfamiliar words with the adult facilitating learning before moving on, helping build vocabulary and strengthen overall language and literacy skills.
